The Internet can be described as a collection of online tools and applications available to potentially reach the world.  Ecommerce is how your business uses these tools and applications to enhance your business’s profitability and reach new market audiences.

If you have a website, the Web is your tool to tell the world what your business offers.

If you email a client then you are using another online tool to communicate with your customers.

This eCommerce course is designed to help you identify the steps to create an online presence.  The course looks at:

• Getting Started - ecommerce trends, online business models, target markets, your competition, and domain names;
• Planning Your Site - sitemaps, planning, content and hosting;
• Web Design - the appearance, usability, security, privacy and who is going to build the site
• Marketing - tips on SEO and getting found on the Internet

The course’s goal is to give you ways to use these tools and know what features draw potential customers to your website.  Through this course you might find that an online newsletter would be useful to your business.

Technology changes constantly and customer preferences for online business needs also change.  This course will help you know how to keep abreast of these changes and adapt your business accordingly.

Follow the links at the end of each page to go through the material.  The activities located after the "Try it" bar (shown below) will demonstrate working examples of eCommerce.  These will provide real world examples of the concepts covered in the class.



Occasionally, there will be activities to be done outside of class that are marked with the "Homework Assignment" bar (shown below).



When you’re done with each session, you should fill out a portion of the business Iplan.  The Iplan is a tool to use when creating your Internet Business Plan.

At the end of each session we would also like to have you complete an evaluation noted by the bar below.
